Bloomfield Council Honors Band, Updates Bridge Repair During 8/17 meeting (tapinto.net) β Bloomfield's council honored the Bloomfield Civic Band's 80th season and proclaimed South Asian Heritage Month while updating residents on key infrastructure projects. Officials reported the Wright's Field pedestrian bridge is safely reopened after repairs and the new children's library remains on track for completion in November. Council also discussed possible tweaks to public comment rules and advanced funding for a major water booster station project.

Bloomfield High Cross Country History Extends Over 100 Years (tapinto.net) β Bloomfield runners have been making history for more than a century, with the high school's boys cross-country team debuting in 1913 and the girls program launching in 1978. The story traces legendary coaches, county and state titles, and standout athletes who kept Bloomfield near the top of Essex County and Group 4 competition. It ends with recent successes under current coach Chris Romano.

These Essex County Police Departments Will Run DUI Checkpoints Ahead Of Labor Day (patch.com) β Bloomfield police will join five other Essex County departments in a state-funded "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign running Aug. 19 to Sept. 7, with $7,000 earmarked for each department. Expect heightened patrols and sobriety checkpoints targeting impaired drivers, part of a broader New Jersey effort that wrote nearly 100,000 summonses last year. Officials stress arranging sober rides and understanding that checkpoints are legal but tightly regulated.
