Attempted Car Theft In Bloomfield Involved Kia: Police
It isn't the only such incident that was recently reported in Essex County involving that model of car, authorities say.
BLOOMFIELD, NJ — An attempted car theft involving a Kia took place in Bloomfield last week – and it isn’t the only such incident that was recently reported in Essex County, authorities say.
The Bloomfield Police Department released the following details about an incident that took place on Dec. 30:
“Officers responded to the area of Hoover Avenue on report of an attempted motor vehicle theft. According to a resident, four males attempted to steal his neighbor’s vehicle and then fled the area in a Kia. During a canvass of the area, another stolen Kia was found abandoned. A short time later, the four juvenile males were stopped and identified. This incident is under investigation.”
Bloomfield isn’t the only Essex County town that has seen attempted thefts involving this model of car.

On Friday, the Nutley Police Department announced that there have been two attempted vehicle thefts in the township over the past week. Both involved Kias, authorities said.
“A viral TikTok trend is believed to be responsible for motor vehicle thefts targeting Kias and Hyundais in the United States,” Nutley police stated. “Thieves have found a way to override security and ignition systems and are stealing these cars at a high rate nationwide.”
