Bloomfield College men's basketball senior guard Gage Daye has been named a First Team All-American by the Division II Bulletin and Basketball Times Magazine, in results released Tuesday.
Perhaps the best player to ever put on a Bloomfield College uniform, Daye concluded his brilliant collegiate career with a banner senior campaign, guiding the Deacons to their first-ever appearance in the Elite Eight earlier this month. The 2010-2011 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Year, Daye also earned CACC Tournament, and NCAA East Regional Tournament Most Valuable Player honors on Bloomfield's historic run to Division II basketball's biggest stage.
One of the top offensive forces in the nation, Daye finished the regular season averaging 23.9 points per game, good for fourth in the country. A vastly underrated facilitator, the guard finished 20th in the nation in assists per game, averaging 5.4 helpers per contest. In the club's first round playoff victory over Felician College, Daye passed Andre Dabney's career scoring mark of 2,350 points, becoming the school's all-time leading scorer.
"Gage is deserving of every accolade that comes his way," Bloomfield head coach Gerald Holmes said. "He is probably the hardest-working player I've ever had in my time here. He makes everyone on the floor with him better, and he's taken our program to heights we have never seen before. He will truly be missed, and I have no doubt he'll continue to realize his goals as a basketball player once he leaves here."
