BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield police recently arrested a blood-covered man accused of burglarizing a local home, authorities said Wednesday.

The Bloomfield Police Department released the following statement about the incident, which took place on Sept. 20:

“Officers responded to the area of Jerome Place on report of a burglary in progress. When officers arrived, they observed Mr. Gabriel Ortiz, 27, of Bloomfield, hanging out of the basement window. Once Ortiz heard the officers, he pulled himself back into the house and laid on the bed adjacent to the window where he was then found covered in blood. Ortiz was arrested and charged.”
