BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Who will get the Democratic Party nod in Bloomfield’s competitive mayoral race? And who will get the party nomination for a local town council seat?
Bloomfield voters went to the polls on Tuesday to cast ballots in the 2024 Democratic and Republican primary elections. The winners will earn their party’s nomination for the general election, which will take place on Nov. 5.

Bloomfield had a competitive Democratic Party race for mayor this year. Councilwoman Jenny Mundell is challenging interim mayor Ted Gamble for an unexpired term, which was left vacant when former mayor Michael Venezia captured a seat in the New Jersey Assembly.
David Tucker is the sole Republican candidate for mayor appearing on the primary ballot in Bloomfield.
There are three candidates competing for Gamble's unexpired at-large seat on the town council. Monica Charris Tabares and Rodney Cauthen are running for the Democratic nod, and Russell Mollica is running unopposed for the Republican nomination.
Here are the latest election results as per the Essex County Clerk’s Office, which remain uncertified:
BLOOMFIELD MAYOR (94.29 percent of districts reported)
Democrat
As of Tuesday night, Mundell was leading Gamble in the Democratic race for mayor. Mundell has declared victory in the race.
- Ted Gamble – 1,934 votes (42.61%)
- Jenny Mundell – 2,605 votes (57.39%)
Republican
- David Tucker – 639 votes (100%)
BLOOMFIELD TOWN COUNCIL (94.29 percent of districts reported)
Democrat
As of Tuesday night, Charris Tabares had a significant lead over Cauthen in the Democratic race for council.
- Monica Charris Tabares – 3,027 votes (69.84%)
- Rodney Cauthen – 1,307 votes (30.16%)
Republican
- Russell Mollica – 643 votes (100%)
