Bloomfield Animal Rescue Community Earns Kudos At Council Meeting

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — There’s a strong animal rescue community in Bloomfield, and it recently got a big thumbs-up at a town council meeting.

The council recognized the efforts of the Bloomfield Animal Shelter and a local nonprofit, Supporters of the Bloomfield Animal Shelter, with a proclamation for National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month at their Oct. 19 meeting.

The shelter has already helped 60 dogs and 125 cats find adoptive homes this year – and reunited 82 dogs and nine cats with their owners, the township noted.

The shelter has partnered with Supporters of the Bloomfield Animal Shelter for the last 10 years, helping to spread community education and awareness, host adoption events, supply local food banks with pet food and fundraise.

“Whether through adoption, fostering, volunteering, or donating, residents can help make a difference in the lives of animals in need,” town officials wrote in a social media post. “Thank you to our animal shelter staff, volunteers, and community partners for the care and dedication they provide year-round.”

Meanwhile, the shelter continues to seek out new homes for dogs like Midnight – who has been with them since January – and cats like Salt and Peppa, a bonded pair of sisters who were found over the summer “dirty, weak and sick” near some garbage cans.
