Bloomfield Babe Ruth Teams Finish Atop League Standings

Bengals and Bandits each reach league final with identical 16-2-1 records.

Bloomfield Bengals coached by Dan Medina and Bloomfield Bandits coached by Tony Cruz both reached the finals with identical records of 16-2 with 1 tie. The tie coming against each other in a 3-3 regular season game.

The Bengals jumped out to a quick 2 run lead when Alvernia University bound Nick Liaci (3-3, HR, BB) singled, Eric Oden Jr. walked and Bloomfield College bound Joanner Santana (4-4, 2b) doubled with 2 outs to score both runners. In the second inning, James Hill singled and scored when Liaci connected on a long home run over the left-center field monster fence.

In the fourth inning the Bengals again went to work. Singles by Santana and TCNJ bound Matt Medina mixed in with 3 walks in the frame plated 3 more runs. “The team played well today. Liaci was big at the plate but he was just as big on the mound going 5 strong innings before tiring a bit in the 6th inning.” said Coach Medina.

The game got close when the Bandits put up 6 runs in the 6th inning capped off by a 3 run home run by Bloomfield College bound Anthony Lantiqua. However, today the Bengals would not be denied and they showed it by coming back with 3 more runs in the top of the 7th to take a 11-6 lead. Hard throwing Javier Made struck out the side in 7th inning to preserve the win. “I couldn’t be happier for the players, some of which may have played in their last Bloomfield game before heading off to college.

Others will continue on to play in college and represent Bloomfield in the All-Star tournament" said Medina.
