Bloomfield Bombers 13U Baseball Team Completes Perfect Weekend
Team rolled to three wins in the Cerbo League.
The Bloomfield Bombers 13U Baseball Team, managed by Dan McDowall, went a perfect 3-0 last weekend in Cerbo League play. On Saturday, the Bombers played a doubleheader against the Chester Bulldogs at Wright’s Field, taking both games, 3-0, and 12-3.
On Sunday, the Bombers breezed to a 13-3 win against the Locked-In Expos in Morristown.
Eddie Abplanalp started the first game of the doubleheader for the Bombers and threw a two-hit complete game shutout. Abplanalp also scored the first run of the game after reaching on an error by the first baseman. He scored on a double to right center by Manny Corporan.

The Bombers got on the board again in the 4th as Craig Dittrich walked and reached third on a base-hit by Corporan. After a walk to Sean Demo to load the bases, Elliot Urgent doubled to drive in two to make it 3-0. Abplanalp got stronger as the game progressed, throwing a four-pitch fifth inning and striking out two of the final four batters to close out the game.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Bombers jumped to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first but the Bulldogs came back and scored three run in the bottom of the inning off starting pitcher Corporan. In the top of the second, the Bombers scored another four runs as JJ Mendoza walked followed by singles from Liam Bejasa, Abplanalp and Corporan.

The Bloomfield bats continued for another run in the third inning when Kyle DiMatteo hit a long double into the left field gap scoring Kyle Tice who walked. The Bombers added three runs in the top of the sixth. Robert Reboa led off with a double into the left field corner. That was followed by a Brandon Kelly walk, a sacrifice bunt by Bejasa and a two-run single by Dylan Pacienza. Corporan kept the Bulldogs at bay as he scattered five hits from the second inning on and pitched his third complete game of season.
On Sunday, the Bombers traveled to Morristown to play the Locked-In Expos. Pacienza started on the mound and pitched masterfully. He pitched out of jams twice and combined with Craig Dittrich and Kyle Tice to hold the Expos to four hits in seven innings.
Meanwhile, the Bomber bats erupted with eight runs in the top of the first as they batted around with singles by Pacienza (two), Dittrich, DiMatteo, Tice, Urgent and Mendoza plus walks by Abplanalp, Reboa and Bejasa. The Bombers scored a run in the third, two in the fourth and one more in the seventh.
The Bombers will participate in the Bergen County Charity Classic this weekend with two games scheduled for Saturday and at least one more on Sunday May 25. You can follow the Bombers progress this weekend through the BCCC website at http://www.memorialbenefit.org
