Fiery Bloomfield Car Crash Results In DUI Charges For Newark Man
Bloomfield police charged a Newark man with DUI after he crashed his Dodge into a Cadillac on Franklin Street, authorities say.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield police charged a Newark man with DUI earlier this month after he crashed his Dodge into a Cadillac on Franklin Street, authorities say.
According to the Bloomfield Police Department, officers responded to the 100 block of Franklin Street around 3:31 a.m. on Sept. 1 to find a black Dodge in the middle of Franklin Street engulfed in flames and a silver Cadillac with heavy rear-end damage.
Police interviewed the driver of the Dodge, Anthony Zavala, 33, of Newark, who allegedly told them that he fell asleep and struck the parked, unoccupied Cadillac.

Officers allegedly noticed “the odor of alcohol” emanating from Zavala’s breath, which led to his arrest for driving while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, police said.
Authorities charged Zavala with DUI and Careless Driving (with property damage).
