Bloomfield Carvel Robbed: Police

An Essex County woman allegedly told Carvel employees she had a gun and grabbed $125 from the cash register, police say.

Bloomfield police arrested an Essex County woman for allegedly attempting to rob the Carvel ice cream store on Nov. 23.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, a female later identified as Chantal Carmichael, 23, of Irvington, entered the Carvel around 6 p.m. and stated that she had a gun.

Carmichael then allegedly demanded money, grabbed $125 from the store’s cash register and fled on foot, according to police.

A Bloomfield police officer located Carmichael walking east on Linden Avenue soon afterwards and arrested her after a brief foot pursuit.

No weapon was located, and Carmichael told detectives that she didn’t possess a firearm, police said.

The allegedly stolen cash was recovered, police stated.

Police charged Carmichael with robbery, possession of CDS and possession of a hypodermic needle. Her bail was set at $100,000.
