In Bloomfield: Church Theft, Car Chase, Vehicle Thefts, Purse Robbery
Police Blotter: May 11 to 19

Editor’s Note: The following incidents are taken directly from the Bloomfield Police Blotter, which may not include the full scope of police activity in the area. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
5/11/15 - $175 was reported stolen from an Officer located inside of Sacred Heart Church. A church spokesperson reportedly believes that he money was stolen on May 7, however an exact time is unknown.
5/11/15 – An apartment was burglarized on the 300 block of Franklin Street between 9:30 am and 2 pm. Pry marks on the door indicated forced entry and seven watches valued at approximately $11,000 was reported missing by the victim.

5/12/15 – Lieutenant Michael Sisco Jr. was on Grove Street when he observed a burgundy color vehicle in front of him, cross over the center line and travel into oncoming traffic. The Lieutenant followed the vehicle as it approached the intersection of Grove Street and Bloomfield Avenue. The vehicle made a right hand turn, crossing over two lanes and traveled east onto Bloomfield Avenue. At that point the Lieutenant attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop however the now suspect vehicle fled. The burgundy Dodge Intrepid continued to flee with the Lieutenant following until the attempt to stop the suspect became too risky to the general public. The pursuit was terminated on 3rd Avenue and N. 7th Street in the City of Newark. It was later discovered that the suspect vehicle was reported stolen out of Newark.
5/13/15 – An employee of the Quick Check located at 357 Broad Street reported to police that a suspect, described as a male wearing a black hat, black jacket, white and black sneakers and having ID cards hanging on his chest, entered the store and allegedly stole approximately $17 worth merchandise and fled. The employee reported that when the suspect exited the store he entered a gold colored Ford Taurus and fled the parking lot striking 2 parked vehicles in the process.

5/13/15 – On the lower end of West Passaic Avenue a resident reported to police that he has had an ongoing problem related to criminal mischief being perpetrated on three of his vehicles. The victim claims that when his vehicles are parked on the street, in front of or near his home, someone has been throwing what appears to be liquid, possibly coffee or soda on all three of his vehicles. This has been happening since February and the incidents occur at all times of the day and night.
5/13/15 – On the 100 block of Watsessing Avenue a 1999 Nissan with Pennsylvania license plates was stolen between 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm. The vehicle was recovered on the 100 block of N. 13th Street in the City of Newark in the morning of 5/13/15.
5/14/15 – A woman visiting relatives on N. 13th Street in The City of Newark parked her 2003 Ford Crown Victoria on the lower end of N. 13th Street in Bloomfield and reported that the vehicle was stolen between 2:00 am and 6:00 am.
5/14/15 – Two steel contractor’s boxes were broken into on a construction site located on the 300 block of Franklin Street. A padlock on a gate was cut to gain entry to the site. A total of approximately $14,000 worth of tools was taken from the boxes.
5/17/15 – On Ella St. the victim of a burglary that reported that he discovered a basement window open and then noticed that several items including: 2 televisions, a X-Box game system and a Dell laptop computer had been stolen from his residence. The incident was pinpointed through video evidence to have occurred at approximately 8:50 pm when a male was captured on tape opening the side door of the victim’s residence. A short time later two other males can be seen leaving the residence each carrying a television.
5/17/15 – A 60 year old Bloomfield resident was robbed of her purse on Park Street at approximately 2:04 pm. The victim reported that three males grabbed her purse from behind and fled on foot south on Broad Street. The victim was not injured during the robbery and no weapons were used to commit the crime. Some of the contents stolen along with the purse were $20.00 cash and a cell phone. A search of the area for the suspects was unsuccessful. 5/17/15 – A Home Depot shopper reported that her 2004 Toyota Highlander with NJ license plates, was stolen from the parking lot at approximately 3:15 pm. The victim reported that she left a passenger in the vehicle with the keys while she was shopping and when the passenger exited the vehicle to use the rest room facilities and left the keys in the vehicle it was stolen.
