Bloomfield Cooling Center Open Through Thursday Amid Heat Wave

A local cooling center will operate through at least Thursday as the lingering hot weather continues in Bloomfield.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A local cooling center will operate through at least Thursday as a lingering heat wave continues in Bloomfield.

Bloomfield officials recently announced that Civic Center at 84 Broad Street will operate as a cooling center for the public from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on several days amid the heat wave. Water bottles will be available on site. Residents can call the Bloomfield Police Department non-emergency number at (973) 680-4141 if they need accommodations such as transportation to the Civic Center or Police Department.

Officials said they will closely monitor the heat index to add extra days “as needed.”

“With temperatures expected to approach 100 degrees, it is not safe for anyone to be outside more than a few moments, and we are taking measures to ensure that individuals without shelter can cool off in the Civic Center during the hottest parts of the day,” Mayor Michael Venezia said last week.
