Bloomfield Cops: Belleville Man Defends Dog’s Honor With Baseball Bat

A canine critic got a savage beating after insulting a Belleville man's dog, Bloomfield police say.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield police arrested a Belleville man last week after he allegedly attacked another man for insulting his dog, authorities say.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, officers responded to an Edison Street home around 4:40 p.m. on Dec. 29 after receiving a report about an assault in progress. On arrival, the officers found a 33-year-old male victim suffering from bruising and swelling on his arm and head.

Police spoke to the alleged assailant, Willie Brooks, 32, of Belleville, who allegedly admitted that he took out the bat and began swinging when the man made “derogatory” comments about his dog.

Authorities arrested Brooks and charged him with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was released after posting bail.
