Bloomfield Cops: Car Parked In Front Of Fire Hydrant Led To 5 Gun, Drug Arrests

Bloomfield police arrested five men on drug and gun charges after officers allegedly found them in a car parked in front of a fire hydrant.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield police arrested five men on drug and gun charges last week after officers allegedly found them in a vehicle parked in front of a fire hydrant, authorities say.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, two officers were on patrol in the area of Oakland Avenue on Friday when they came across a vehicle parked in front of a fire hydrant near the intersection with Fremont Street.

The officers said that when they approached the car, which was occupied by five people, they allegedly detected the “strong odor of marijuana” coming from inside the vehicle, authorities stated.

Inside the vehicle, officers found 14.5 grams of marijuana and a Smith & Wesson .40 caliber handgun with two magazines and 11 hollow-point bullets, police stated.

Authorities charged the following individuals with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of Hollow-Point Bullets and Possession of CDS Marijuana: Tahaka Bovell, 20, of Newark; Ibnyusef Ali, 21, of Newark; Uniki Armstrong, 21, of Newark; Kervance Couyoute, 21, of Pennsylvania; John Reynolds, 19, of Somerset.
