Bloomfield Cops Find Alleged Car Burglar Hiding In Bushes Near Wright’s Field

Bloomfield police arrested a local man accused of multiple vehicle burglaries after a foot chase.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield police arrested a local man accused of multiple vehicle burglaries after a foot chase earlier this month, finding the 22-year-old hiding behind some bushes at Wright’s Field, authorities say.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, the incident took place around 3:47 a.m. on May 2 when police received a report about a possible vehicle burglary. A victim told officers that they were following a man who they allegedly saw enter a vehicle that wasn’t his.

The victim gave police a description of the man - later identified as Gabriel Ortiz, 22, of Bloomfield – and told officers his last location.

Bloomfield officers later found Ortiz hiding behind bushes at Wright’s Field, authorities said.

Ortiz was in possession of an unspecified amount of property and money allegedly taken from six parked vehicles in the area, police stated in a release.
