“During a motor vehicle stop, Officer Christiano noticed there was a child in the backseat of the vehicle buckled in to a car seat. Officer Christiano immediately recognized the car seat was not put in correctly making the situation unsafe for the child. Officer Christiano advised the driver (the child’s mom) of his findings and asked if she would allow him to secure the seat properly. The driver was more than willing to allow him to do so. Officer Donker, being a certified car seat installation officer assisted Officer Christiano and within minutes mom and child were safely on their way.”
Bloomfield police added that if local parents or guardians want a certified officer to check their own car seat – or if they want a helping hand with installation, free of charge – they can call the traffic office at 973-680-4096.
