Bloomfield Cops: Man Chased Another With Machete After Road Rage Incident
Bloomfield police charged a Union resident with aggravated assault after he allegedly chased another man around with a machete.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield police charged a Union resident with aggravated assault after he allegedly chased another man around with a machete during a road rage incident earlier this month, authorities say.
According to the Bloomfield Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Ward Street on July 3 after receiving a report of a man armed with a machete chasing another man. Nobody suffered injury during the encounter, police stated.
On arrival, the officers allegedly learned that the incident was spurred by an earlier road rage incident, authorities said.

According to police, the suspect, Christopher Pompey, 46, of Union, allegedly got out of his car and pulled out a machete from his waistband, then began chasing the male victim around.
Multiple witnesses on the scene provided information about the incident to police, authorities said.

Police found the machete allegedly used in the encounter at the scene.
Police arrested Pompey and later charged him with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
