Bloomfield Fire Department Installs New Air Purification Systems On All Frontline Apparatus

BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- The Bloomfield Fire Department has purchased and installed new air purification systems on all frontline apparatus as a way to combat COVID-19. The systems were purchased through funding from the CARES Act.

“Keeping our frontline workers, that put their lives on the line every day for us safe has always been a top priority, but especially so during this pandemic,” said Mayor Michael Venezia. “By purchasing these new systems in addition to the other precautionary steps we have taken from the onset of this crisis, we are doing everything in our power to prevent any Firefighters from getting COVID-19.”

The purification systems are designed specifically for fire vehicles and are unique to other filtration systems because in addition to using UV technology, the systems distribute low doses of hydroperoxide as a sanitizing agent. The systems kill 99% of germs, microbes and bacteria.

“Installing these new filtration systems is one of the many important steps that the township has taken to limit the spread of COVID-19 among Firefighters,” said Fire Chief Lou Venezia. “These devices will not require any maintenance in the near future and will be useful to the department long after the virus has been eradicated.”
