Bloomfield: Man Hospitalized After Hit-and-Run on the Garden State Parkway

Victim was changing tire when hit; state police are searching for suspect.

State police continue their search for a hit-and-run driver who put a 63-year-old Perth Amboy man in the hospital after striking him on the Garden State Parkway in Bloomfield.

According to police, a dark sedan struck Donald Drakeford as he was changing his tire around 1 a.m. on Thursday. The impact gave Drakeford a compound fracture to his right leg.

Drakeford told police that the driver briefly stopped before continuing south.

Emergency responders transported Drakeford to University Hospital in Newark, where he was placed in the ICU.

According to police, the victim described the driver of the car as an Asian female.

Police stated that the vehicle that fled the scene is possibly a black 2013-Present Honda Accord or Civic. The vehicle should have damage to the passenger side headlight, the passenger side mirror and possibly the front bumper.
