BLOOMFIELD, NJ — If this year’s Bloomfield Junior Police Academy class is any indication, the future of local law enforcement is in safe hands.

Last week, the Bloomfield Police Department graduated its third Junior Police Academy class with a ceremony at the Bloomfield Town Hall Council Chambers.

“The purpose of the Bloomfield Junior Police Academy is to foster relationships that will bridge the gaps between law enforcement and youth, while also exposing them to future careers in serving their community,” according to the BPD.

According to the BPD, this year’s class of 63 middle school-aged students participated and completed a 10-day program, during which they experienced situations, physical training and formation drills that Bloomfield officers encounter.

The experience also included a trip to the Morris County Juvenile Detention Center and a chance to witness a NJ State Police Special Operations helicopter landing.
