Bloomfield Karate Teacher Not Guilty Of Sex Assault Charges (UPDATED)

An East Orange man who owns a dojo in Bloomfield was accused of "inappropriate physical contact" with a child. He was found not guilty.

The owner of a karate dojo in Bloomfield accused of repeatedly making “inappropriate physical contact” with a child in 2019 was found not guilty on all charges on Friday.

The East Orange resident was arrested and charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a student at his karate school, Kokusai Karate Dojo, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Bloomfield Department of Public Safety previously said.

Prosecutors alleged that the man repeatedly made “inappropriate physical contact” with the child’s intimate parts. The student eventually reported the behavior to Bloomfield police, authorities said.

On Friday, nearly four years after his arrest, a jury found the man not guilty on all charges, court records show.
