Bloomfield Man Had 14 Pounds Of Marijuana In Apartment: Prosecutor

Police arrested a Bloomfield man after finding 14 pounds of marijuana, 80 grams of cocaine and "several hundred" THC vapor pens.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Police arrested a Bloomfield man after finding 14 pounds of marijuana, 80 grams of cocaine and “several hundred” THC vapor pens in his Bloomfield Avenue apartment last week, authorities say.

According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, police stopped Matthew H. Cabrita, 26, while he was driving in Wallington on Sept. 6, finding 200 grams of cocaine in the vehicle.

A subsequent search of Cabrita’s residence turned up about 14 pounds of marijuana, several hundred THC vapor pens, eighty grams of cocaine, drug paraphernalia, including a vacuum sealer, bags and $86,028 in cash.

The estimated street value of the suspected controlled dangerous substances seized was about $100,000, Bergen County prosecutors estimated.

Authorities charged Cabrita with one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Cocaine, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5B(1), a First Degree Crime; one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Cocaine, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5B(2), a Second Degree Crime; one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Marijuana, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5B(10)(b), a Second Degree Crime; one count of Money Laundering, N.J.S.A. 2C:21-25A, a Second Degree Crime; and one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Hash-Oil, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5B(11), a Third Degree Crime.

The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti, the Wallington Police Department under the direction of Chief Carmello Imbruglia, the Garfield Police Department under the direction of Chief Raymond Kovach, and the Emerson Police Department under the direction of Chief Michael Mazzeo.

Prosecutors credited the Emerson Police Department, the Wallington Police Department, the Garfield Police Department, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Bloomfield Police Department for providing assistance with the investigation.
