Bloomfield Man Reports Possible Diversionary Burglary: Police

The Bloomfield resident told police that two men claiming to be from the water department pulled a burglary scam on Hoover Avenue.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A Bloomfield resident reported that he was the victim of a possible diversionary burglary on Feb. 10, authorities say.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, the Hoover Avenue resident told officers that two men came to his home and said they were from the water department. When the homeowner let the men inside, they escorted him to the basement.

At that time, one of the suspects reportedly went upstairs to “run the water” while his accomplice remained behind with the homeowner, police said.

The homeowner said that he received a repair estimate of $1,500, which made him suspicious. He then asked both men to leave, and they departed from the scene in a silver pickup truck, police said.

The victim then discovered that money was missing from his bedroom, police stated.

Bloomfield detectives are investigating the incident, authorities said.
