Bloomfield May Create A Flood Mitigation Committee, Mayor Says

Ted Gamble: "The time for action on storm water management and flood mitigation is now."

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield is looking at forming a committee to help cope with flooding and storm water management in the township, according to Mayor Ted Gamble.

Gamble recently announced that there are plans to get a resolution on the agenda for the town council meeting on Sept. 23, which would establish a Flood Mitigation Advisory Committee.

The mayor’s announcement comes less than a month after the town saw a wave of severe flooding, which caused havoc throughout the region. Although nobody was injured in Bloomfield, the town’s nearby neighbor of Belleville saw tragedy strike when a 63-year-old man was found dead amid the flood waters.

Gamble posted the following statement on social media last week:

“The time for action on storm water management and flood mitigation is now. Since taking office I’ve held our vendors accountable demanding identifiable actions after two years of no results. At last night’s council meeting we heard those recommendations as well as insights and concerns from many community members impacted by flooding. To solve this problem we will need to work collaboratively with neighboring towns, the county, state and federal government to fund these projects and make progress on a scale that will make a difference. As long as I am mayor, I will continue to lay the groundwork to make this happen.”
