Bloomfield Officials: Don't Leave Gloves, Masks In Streets

Street sweeping will resume in Bloomfield, despite the coronavirus crisis. Make sure to toss your gloves/masks in the trash, officials said.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Don't leave your used gloves and masks in the streets, Bloomfield officials say.

On Thursday, township officials announced that street sweeping will resume on most posted streets next week, despite the ongoing coronavirus crisis. The Bloomfield Department of Public Works and Park Maintenance will work on the majority of posted streets between Monday, April 6 and Thursday, April 9.

As part of their advisory, Bloomfield officials made a plea to local residents, asking them to avoid leaving plastic gloves and masks on the streets and dispose of them properly in garbage cans.

The township is asking residents to move their cars from posted areas to avoid hampering the sweeping effort. However, those who are unable to move their cars won’t face penalties, officials said.

To help local drivers cope, officials have indefinitely suspended alternate side parking, meter enforcement and 48-hour violations. Additional parking is also available in Bloomfield Public School lots until further notice.

“On April 6, we will be resuming street sweeping in the township to get rid of debris on our roads,” Mayor Michael Venezia said.

“Despite the crisis that we find ourselves in, we are doing everything in our power to keep our community clean and to keep regular services functioning,” Venezia said. “I am asking that residents that are able to move their vehicles from areas where the street sweeping will be occurring to please do so, so that our crews can do the best possible job.”
