Bloomfield Planning Board Denies Wendy’s, Taco Bell Proposal

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — The Bloomfield Planning Board has given a thumbs-down to a proposed plan to demolish a building on Broad Street and replace it with a new one that would be home to a Wendy’s and a Taco Bell restaurant.

Earlier this week, the planning board denied an application from Finomus Bloomfield RE Holdings LLC at their public meeting. The owner of the property had proposed tearing down the existing building at 1243 Broad Street – which formerly housed a Friendly’s restaurant – and building a new one in its place. The applicant was seeking preliminary and final major site plan approval, bulk variances and any such other relief as may be required from Bloomfield’s zoning ordinance to develop a restaurant in a neighborhood business B-2 zone.

The board raised questions about potential traffic and parking complications from the project, as well as the placement of the proposed restaurant in relation to nearby homes.

The property is zoned for a fast-food restaurant without a drive-thru, leaving the door open for the applicant to rework the plan and put it before the board again.
