Bloomfield Police Alert: Beware Of Phone Scam

The Bloomfield Police Department issued the following advisory on Wednesday:

“We are getting reports of a scam on the elderly where the caller presents himself as a federal agent with the Department of Consumer and Regulatory affairs. The caller will tell you that you have won a significant amount of money ($450,000) in a sweepstakes and in order to claim your money you must first send in $1,800 to record and ensure the delivery! THIS IS A SCAM! Please spread the word to anyone and everyone ESPECIALLY THE ELDERLY that do not have access to social media! These people are relentless and sound very convincing. Please do not buy in to their lies! If you have any questions or have had similar incidents please call police headquarters at 973-680-4141.”
