Bloomfield Police Arrest 2 Accused Burglars

BPD: A man tried to break into a home by pushing in a resident's air conditioner. Officers found another suspect in a building's basement.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield police arrested two accused burglars last week, authorities announced Wednesday.

The Bloomfield Police Department released the following details about each incident.

Oct. 23 – Police responded to 935 Broad Street (Brookdale Gardens) after getting a report about a burglary. The resident heard a loud noise and saw a man attempting to gain entry by pushing in her air conditioner. After realizing the apartment was occupied, the man then attempted to gain entry into another apartment nearby. Officers arrived on scene and arrested Scott Hatchett, 63, of Newark. He was transported to Bloomfield Police Headquarters to be processed.

Oct. 26 – Police responded to 669 Bloomfield Avenue after getting a report about a burglary, finding a crow bar and a broken side window at the scene. The officers established a perimeter, and while clearing the interior of the establishment, they located the suspect in the basement. The suspect – later identified as Kyle Bernard, 38, of Union – was arrested and transported to Bloomfield Police Headquarters to be charged.
