Bloomfield Police Arrest Ax-Wielding Teen: Authorities

Bloomfield police arrested an ax-wielding 18-year-old after an argument with another teen escalated into violence, authorities say.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield police arrested an ax-wielding 18-year-old after an argument with another teen escalated into violence last month, authorities say.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, the incident reportedly began when William Tirado, 18, of Bloomfield, got into an argument with a 17-year-old male near the 100 block of Spring Street on Nov. 16.

The 17-year-old told officers that when the argument got heated, Tirado retrieved an ax from behind a nearby building. At that time, witnesses on the scene were able to wrestle the ax away from Tirado. Officers later located and secured the ax allegedly used in the incident, police said.

Tirado suffered minor injuries as a result of being wrestled to the ground, authorities stated.

Authorities charged Tirado with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He was transported to police headquarters and held in lieu of $25,000 bail.
