Bloomfield Police Blotter: March 3 to 9

Incidents include shoplifting assault, daytime burglary, stolen cars, argument over a parking spot and marijuana arrests

ROBBERY

On March 6, 2015 at 6:54 pm two employees of a local business on Arlington Avenue reported being assaulted by a male, whom they confronted after they witnessed him attempting to shoplift $40.00 worth of merchandise from their store. The victims told investigators that the suspect, a black male, approximately 40 to 50 years old, 5’9” tall, wearing a green coat, dark color hat, jeans and thick glasses, concealed the merchandise and after assaulting the employees fled on foot eastbound on Arlington Avenue. A search of the area for the suspect proved to be unsuccessful and anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Bloomfield Police Department Detective Bureau at 973-680-4084.

BURGLARY

3/4/15 – A Golf Road resident reported to police an attempted burglary that may have occurred sometime before 3/3/2015 based on evidence discovered at the scene. The resident became suspicious and called police after finding footprints in the snow leading up his driveway. The suspect or suspects were unsuccessful when they attempted to gain entry to the victims home through a storm window which leads into the garage.

3/4/15 – A daytime residential burglary was interrupted on the 100 block of Orange Street when a resident, sitting in his bedroom, caught a suspect as he attempted to enter the room. The victim told investigators that he was working on his computer when he heard a noise coming from the front door but he was not immediately alarmed because he has two roommates. However, when his bedroom door began to open he became startled and swung the door open, only to discover that a dark skinned black male, 5’9” tall, in his late 20’s, wearing a black leather jacket with a grey hood, turned and ran from his apartment. Police discovered that the suspect entered the apartment by prying a bolt lock open.

THEFT (AUTO)

3/3/2015 – A 2002 Pontiac was stolen from the 500 block of Bloomfield Avenue at 3:40 am when the victim parked his vehicle close to a local fast food restaurant to get some food. When the victim realized that the restaurant was closed he returned to his vehicle and observed two males entering his vehicle and drive away. The vehicle fled eastbound on Bloomfield Avenue and turned onto Conger Street before the victim lost sight.

Police located the stolen vehicle a short time later unoccupied, crashed into a tree on Farrand Street.

3/3/2015 – A 1997 Honda with NJ license plates was stolen from Royalton Place between 5:00 am and 7:13 am.

3/7/2015 – A 2003 Ford Explorer with NJ license plates was stolen from the parking lot of 135 Bloomfield Avenue between 10:00 pm on 3/6/2015 and 2:41 am on 3/7/2015.

THEFT

3/4/2015 – On the lower end of Dodd Street the victim of a theft reported to police that a 3’x11’ white canvas banner with a dragon insignia on it was stolen from in front of his store.

3/4/2015 – On the 300 block of Broad Street an employee of a local business reported that at approximately 3:10 pm he witnessed a female enter the store and proceed to the candy aisle. Once there he observed her select approximately $30.00 worth of miscellaneous candy and snack items, conceal them in her purse and attempt to leave the store. The clerk approached the suspect and she ran out of the store into the parking lot. The victim described the suspect as being a thin black female, approximately 17 or 18 years of age, wearing a olive green jacket, gray hoodie, grey leggings, and black shoes. The suspect was also carrying a large blue and pink purse which she used to conceal the miscellaneous candy and snack items.

3/4/2015 – A Berkeley Heights Park resident reported a snow shovel and a garden shovel stolen from her front porch. The victim last observed the shovels, valued at approximately $50.00, on 3/3/2015 at 9:00 am.

3/6/2015 – The manager of a business located at # 8 Franklin Street told investigators that a single suspect shoplifted merchandise on two separate occasions from his store on 2/28/2015 and 3/4/2015. The manager reported that the suspect switched bar code labels from cake pans to baby diapers and exited the store without paying full price for the merchandise. Video evidence is being looked at by investigators.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

3/3/2015 – A renter on the 900 block of Broad Street reported to police that an unknown suspect damaged her apartment door by breaking keys off in both the dead bolt lock and the door knob lock. The victim claims that this is not the first time she has been a victim to this type of vandalism.

3/7/2015 – A resident on the 300 block of Belleville Avenue reported that someone damaged her 2004 Honda Civic between the hours of 12:00 pm and 9:00 pm.

ARRESTS

3/3/2015 – Alkuwan Able age 18 from Newark was arrested by Officer Caesar Mazzeo at 1:35 am on Prospect Street after a motor vehicle stop led to the discovery of an outstanding $279.00 warrant out of Irvington.

3/3/2015 – Raheem Parker age 41 from Newark was turned over to the custody of Officers Donald Grey and Marvid Camacho from the Monmouth County Jail after being arrested for an outstanding Bloomfield Warrant. Mr. Parker was transported to Bloomfield, processed for his warrant and released ROR by the Honorable Judge John Paparazzo with a court date of 3/24/15 pending.

3/3/2015 – Raven George age 22 from Roselle was arrested by Officers Anthony Litterio and Matthew Popowicz at 9:35 pm on the 100 Block of Bloomfield Avenue. A motor vehicle stop led the officers to the discovery two outstanding warrants, one from Garwood, $1500.00 and one from Newark $350.00 as well as Ms. George being in possession of a substance the officers believed to be marijuana and some CDS paraphernalia. Ms. George was charged with and issued summonses for:

  • Possession of CDS paraphernalia
  • Possession of CDS, marijuana under 50 grams
  • Possession of CDS, marijuana in a motor vehicle
  • Driving while suspended

Ms. George was released ROR by the Honorable Judge John Paparazzo for all of her Bloomfield charges as well as being released ROR for the warrants in the other jurisdictions with new court dates pending.

3/4/2015 – Jamaal Smith age 33 from Rahway was arrested by Officers Reuben Rivera and Dominick Sodano at 8:07 am on the 400 Block of Bloomfield Avenue after a motor vehicle stop led to the discovery of an outstanding $165.00 warrant out of Clark, NJ.

Mr. Smith was processed and released after posting bail.

3/4/2015 – Richard Rusignuolo age 24 form Newark was arrested by Officer Timothy Kealy at 3:58 pm on the 1200 block of Broad Street. Officer Kealy responded to a call of a verbal argument over a parking space and during the investigation discovered that Mr. Rusignuolo had an outstanding $439.00 warrant out of Fair Lawn, NJ. Mr. Rusignuolo was placed under arrest, transport to Police HQ’s, processed and released ROR with a new courtdtae pending in Fair Lawn.

3/4/2015 – Gail Mobbley age 47 of Newark was arrested by Officers Thomas Lutz and Shonah Maldonado at 9:26 pm on the property of 8 Franklin Street and charged with:

  • Trespassing
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Consumption of alcohol in public

Ms. Mobbley who also had an outstanding warrant out of Belleville for $1000.00, was processed and bail was posted at $500.00 for her Bloomfield charges. Unable to post bail Ms. Mobbley was transported to Essex County to be detained pending a court hearing.

3/5/2015 – Anthony Gaeta age 22 from Bloomfield was arrested by Officers Victor Gonzalez and Christian Alvarado at 11:57 am on John F. Kennedy Drive near Bloomfield Avenue after a motor vehicle stop led to the discovery of and outstanding Bloomfield warrant. Mr. Gaeta was processed and released ROR with a court date pending.

3/5/2015 – Bryce Hall age 23 from Bloomfield was arrested by Officers Victor Gonzalez and Christian Alvarado at 11:57 am on John F. Kennedy Drive near Bloomfield Avenue, after a motor vehicle stop led the officers to believe that he was allegedly involved in a shoplifting a short time prior to the motor vehicle stop. While conducting the stop Officers Gonzalez and Alvarado interviewed Mr. Bryce the passenger, and discovered merchandise that was reported to have been stolen from CVS on Glenwood Avenue. Mr. Bryce was identified, arrested, transported to Police HQ’s, charged with shoplifting then released ROR with a 3/10/15 court date pending.

3/5/2015 - Sean Davila age 20 from Newark was arrested by Officers Shonah Maldonado and Thomas Lutz at 8:41 pm on the property of 72 Bloomfield Avenue, after a motor vehicle stop led the officers to the discovery of a substance they believed to be marijuana was found in his possession. Mr. Davila was processed and charged with possession of CDS, marijuana, under 50 grams then released ROR with a court date of 3/10/15 pending.

3/8/2015 – Leonel Noda age 51 from Newark and Manuel Rivera age 48 from Belleville were both arrested by Officers Nicolae Toader and Jon Donker at 12:40 pm on the 100 block of Bloomfield Avenue after a motor vehicle stop led to the discovery that both men had active outstanding warrants. Noda was processed and released ROR with a court date pending for a $500.00 traffic warrant out of Newark. Rivera was processed and was being detained pending transfer to the Essex County Jail for his warrant out of the Essex County Sheriff’s Department.

3/9/2015 – Alterik Drake age 26 from Newark was arrested by Officers Odilio Say and Anthony Latterio at 12:04 am on Ampere Parkway after a motor vehicle stop led to the discovery of an outstanding warrant out of Newark. Mr. Drake was processed and released after posting bail.
