Bloomfield Police Warn Residents About Car Thefts, Burglaries

Bloomfield police are telling car owners to take care of their vehicles. Here are just a few examples of why they're asking.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield police are reminding car owners to take steps to prevent vehicle thefts and burglaries.

On Wednesday, the Bloomfield Police Department released a list of tips to prevent motor vehicle thefts, and thefts from autos (see the flyers below).

Jan. 10 – Officers responded to the area of Hickory Street and J.F.K. Drive North on report of a theft from auto. At 3 p.m., a resident left her 2020 white Mercedes Benz unlocked. When she returned to her vehicle, she noticed her gym bag that contained gym equipment and a Visa card was missing. A neighbor witnessed a tall male wearing an orange-hooded sweatshirt near her vehicle. No suspects have been identified as of yet. This incident is under investigation.

Jan. 10 - Officers responded to 122 Bloomfield Avenue (7-11 gas station) on report of a motor vehicle theft. The owner left his 2016 white Mitsubishi Outlander running with the keys inside the vehicle while he entered the store. Upon exiting the store, he noticed the vehicle was missing. The vehicle was entered NCIC stolen. This incident is under investigation.

Jan. 12 - Officers responded to 122 Bloomfield Avenue on report of a motor vehicle theft. The owner left his 2020 black Honda Civic running while he entered the store. When he returned to where his vehicle was parked, he noticed it was gone. The vehicle was entered NCIC stolen. This incident is under investigation.

Jan. 14 - Officers responded to the 100-block of Newark Avenue on report of a motor vehicle theft. The owner of the vehicle parked his 2020 black Dodge Durango at 9:15 a.m. Shortly after returning, he noticed the vehicle was gone. The vehicle was entered NCIC stolen. This incident is under investigation.

Jan. 16 - Officers responded to the area of 582 Bloomfield Avenue (Crown Fried Chicken) on a report of a stolen vehicle. The victim’s 2020 gray Honda Civic was in front of the store and a black-colored sedan pulled up behind. The victim then went inside to pick up food for a delivery. While waiting for the order he heard a noise coming from outside. He turned around and saw a tall male getting into his vehicle. The vehicle was last seen traveling eastbound on Bloomfield Avenue. The vehicle was entered NCIC stolen. This incident is under investigation.

Jan. 16 - Officers responded to the 200-block of North 16th Street on report on a stolen vehicle. A resident observed a male enter his 2018 black Honda Ridgeline pickup. The vehicle was left running and unlocked in front of his residence. The suspect drove away with his vehicle and was last seen going eastbound on Bloomfield Avenue. The vehicle was entered NCIC stolen. This incident is under investigation.
