Editor’s Note: The following incidents are taken directly from the Bloomfield Police Blotter, which may not include the full scope of police activity in the area. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
6/3/2015 – On the lower end of Hazelwood Road a resident reported that someone came into their driveway sometime between 4:00 PM on 6/2 and 8:23 AM on 6/3, entered their unlocked 2014 Volkswagen and stole $200.00 in cash, some identification cards and some credit cards.
6/3/2015 – A Watsessing Avenue resident reported that prescription medication, including 120 Dilaudid tablets and 30 Ambien tablets were stolen from her home.

6/3/2015 – Reginald Murphy age 46 of Newark was arrested by Officer Bruce Calkin at 2:53 pm after allegedly shoplifting $49.00 worth of merchandise from a business located on the 100 block of Bloomfield Avenue. Mr. Murphy was processed, charged with shoplifting and released ROR after appearing before the Honorable Judge John Paparazzo. During the arrest process an active $150.00 Bloomfield warrant was discovered which Mr. Murphy was to pay on a time payment plan set by Judge Paparazzo.
6/3/2015 – Michael Brown age 28 from Bloomfield was arrested by Anti-Crime Unit Officers Thomas Lutz and Matthew Popowicz at 3:37 pm on Newark Avenue after the officers recognized Mr. Brown as a person wanted by the Essex County Sheriff’s Department for a probation violation. Mr. Brown was processed and turned over to the custody of the Essex County Sheriff’s Department.

6/4/2015 – On the 400 block of Beardsley Avenue a 2002 Nissan was broken into sometime between 10:45 pm on 5/3 and 7:10 am on 5/4. Although the victim reported that the car doors were locked, there were no signs of damage or forced entry to vehicle. A wallet containing several credit cards, $300 cash and a stereo wire adapter were reported stolen.
6/4/2015 – Keith Matheis age 61 from Montclair was arrested by Montclair Police for an active $500 Bloomfield warrant and turned over to the custody of Officers Dominick Sodano and Kenneth Batchelor. Mr. Matheis was processed and being detained pending a court appearance later in the day.
6/4/2015 – A shopper at the Deals Store located at 135 Bloomfield Avenue reported to police that she believes that while in line at a register an unknown person removed a wallet from her pocketbook. The contents of the wallet included some credit cards and other identification cards.
6/4/2015 – Fole Mitchell age 36 from Orange, NJ was arrested by Officer Luca Piscitelli at 5:11 pm on the 200 block of Glenwood Avenue after a motor vehicle stop led to the discovery of two active warrants out of the City of Newark. Mr. Mitchell was processed and released ROR by Newark Police.
6/4/2015 – Javier Espinola age 26 from Bloomfield was arrested by Anti-Crime Unit Officers Luca Piscitelli and Thomas Lutz, at 7:13 pm on Smith Street, after the Officers went to Mr. Smith’s home with an active arrest warrant out of Belleville, NJ. Mr. Espinola was processed, transported to Belleville and turned over to the custody of Belleville Police.
6/4/2015 – Ayesha Manning age 35 from Orange, NJ was arrested by Anti-Crime Unit Officer Thomas Lutz and Lieutenant Anthony Argento at 9:03 pm on the property of 72 Bloomfield Avenue. The Officers were investigating a disabled parking space violation, when they interviewed Ms. Manning and discovered active warrants out of Newark and a substance believed to be marijuana in her possession. Ms. Manning was processed, charged with possession of CDS, marijuana, under 50 grams and released ROR with court dates pending in Bloomfield and Newark.
6/5/2015 – Limin Yu age 44 from Flushing, NY was arrested by Anti-Crime Unit Officers Luca Piscitelli and Thomas Lutz at 5:20 pm on the 200 block of N. 16th Street after an investigation led to the discovery of 227 allegedly pirated DVD’s and 3 counterfeit purses were found in his possession. The Officers who were in a business on N. 16th Street on unrelated business came in to contact with Mr. Yu and his pirated goods, identified themselves as police officers and asked Mr. Yu to step outside of the business to be interviewed. Once outside, the officers contend that Mr. Yu put down the bag of pirated and counterfeit goods, and fled on foot, before being caught a short distance away and taken into custody.
Mr. Yu was processed and charged with: Violation of the New Jersey Anti-Piracy Act and Obstruction. He was released with a court date pending after posting bail.
6/5/2015 – On the 100 block of N. 17th Street a 2007 Nissan was broken into sometime between 6:00 pm on 6/4 and 6:00 am on 6/5. The driver’s side door lock was damaged and a cell phone charger was stolen.
6/5/2015 – On the lower end of Orange Street a brick was used to smash the window of a parked 2002 Chevy Tahoe. The incident occurred sometime between 3:00 pm on 6/4 and 9:00 am 6/5.
6/5/2015 – On the 100 block of Arlington Avenue two windshields were damaged on vehicles parked in a gated area, sometime between 10:00 pm 6/4 and 3:00 pm on 6/5.
6/6/2015 – A 26 year old Bloomfield woman was robbed of her purse as she was walking on the 200 block of N. 17th Street. The victim told police that as she was walking south on N. 17th Street she observed a parked gray or silver, older model 4 door vehicle, occupied by a Hispanic female in the driver’s seat. The victim described the female suspect as being approximately 40 to 50 years old and said that a Hispanic male, approximately 5’-6” tall, short scruffy gray beard, medium build, wearing a gray zippered hoody, gray fitted baseball cap, and blue jeans approached her from behind. The male suspect grabbed her purse, a struggle took place and the victim was thrown to the ground. The male suspect took the purse, entered the passenger side of suspect vehicle and the vehicle fled the area south on N. 17th Street. The victim was checked for injuries by Bloomfield EMS and no further treatment was needed. The suspects got away with the victims purse which contained $1.50, a driver’s license, an umbrella and a cell phone.

6/6/2015 – A patron of the A.S.H. lounge located at 144 Bloomfield Avenue reported that at 1:20 am she left her purse unattended on a table inside the establishment. When she returned to the table her purse was gone. The contained various forms of identification, keys, credit cards, and $80 in cash.
6/6/2015 – Willy Pinedo age 25 from Paterson was arrested by Officers Jannor Navarro and Meljunn Pascua at 2:16 am on the 100 block of Byrd Avenue after an motor vehicle stop led the officers to believe that Mr. Pinedo was operating his 2005 Nissan while impaired.
Mr. Pinedo was processed and released with a court date pending after being issued summonses for: DWI, Refusal to submit breath samples, Careless driving, Failure to provide proof of a valid driver’s license, Failure to provide proof of valid registration and Traveling the wrong way on a one way street.
6/7/2015 – On the 300 block of Berkeley Avenue the front license plate and license plate bolts were stolen from a 2008 Nissan parked in front of the victim’s home.
6/7/2015 – A resident reported that after a move from Thomas Street to the 100 block of Franklin Street on 4/31/15, he began to notice that some of his belongings were missing as he was unpacking. So far some art-work, some tools and personal paperwork valued at approximately $5,000 has been reported stolen.
6/7/2015 – Gary Clark age 35 from Bloomfield was arrested by Officer’s Teo Osis and Nicolae Toader at 1:40 am, on the 300 block of Hoover Avenue, after an investigation into a motor vehicle crash led to the discovery of an active $500 warrant out of Lyndhurst, NJ.
Mr. Clark was processed for the active warrant and additionally charged with Resisting arrest, as the Officers contend Mr. Clark ran when they confronted him and attempted to place him under arrest. The Honorable Judge Vincent Pirone set bail at $2,500 with a 10 percent cash option available. Mr. Clark was being detained pending the posting of bail or a court appearance.
6/7/2015 – Emerayeh Zewdu age 33 from Bloomfield was arrested by Officers Nicholas Mauriello and Christian Alvarado at 2:21 am, on the 200 block of Davey Street after an investigation into a noise complaint led to the discovery of an active warrant out of the Hudson County Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Zewdu was processed and transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility to be held pending pick up by The Hudson County Sheriff’s Department.
Mr. Zewdu was also issued summonses in Bloomfield for: Violation of the Township Noise Code, Open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, Careless driving
6/7/2015 – Steven Silverman age 32 from Bloomfield was arrested by Officer Victor Gonzalez at 11:04 am on the 100 block of Orange Street, after an investigation led to the discovery of several active Bloomfield warrants. Mr. Silverman was processed and being detained at the Essex County Correctional Facility pending bail, which was set by the Honorable Judge Vincent Pirone at $30,000 or a 10 percent cash option or a court appearance.
6/7/2015 – Rafael Almodovar age 39 was arrested by Officers Marvid Camacho and Pasquale Parisi at 3:55 pm after allegedly shoplifting $133 worth of merchandise from the Stop & Shop located at 8 Franklin Street. During the arrest process $2,100 worth of active warrants were discovered from Newark and a $500 active warrant out of Belleville was discovered.
Mr. Almodovar was processed and transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility to be detained pending bail or a court appearance.
6/7/2015 – Orlando Christmas age 52 was arrested by Officer George Bambera at 6:25 pm after allegedly shoplifting $37 worth of merchandise from the Deals Dollar Store located at 135 Bloomfield Avenue. During the arrest Mr. Christmas was also found to be in possession of a glass pipe that Officer Bambera believed was used as drug paraphernalia which was taken and placed into evidence. Mr. Christmas was released ROR with a court date pending after being processed and charged with Shoplifting and Possession of drug paraphernalia.
6/8/2015 – A shed on the 100 block of Newark Avenue was broken into and 2 leaf blowers valued at approximately $700 were stolen. A witness on the second floor reported to police that during the course of the day she did see a white male on the property. She described the suspect as possibly of Spanish or Italian decent, thin build, approximately 5’-10” tall, clean cut look and brown hair.
6/8/2015 – Mamadou Diaby age 43 from Darby, PA was arrested by Officer JoVincent Emperio at 1:06 am on John F Kennedy Drive after a motor vehicle stop led to the discovery of an active $120 warrant out of Fort Lee. Mr. Diaby was processed and released after posting bail.
6/8/2015 – Duane Green age 41 from Montclair was arrested by Officer John Singerline at 2:21 pm on the 300 block of Broughton Avenue, after a witness identified him as being the suspect that entered a parked vehicle and removed a cell phone valued at over $700 dollars. Mr. Green was transported to Police HQ’s, processed, and charged with Burglary and Theft.
The Honorable Judge Vincent Pirone set bail at $30,000 with a 10 percent option available, a court date is pending and Mr. Green was transported to The Essex County Correctional Facility to be detained.
6/8/2015 – Jason Jefferson age 21 was arrested by Anti-Crime Officers Thomas Lutz and Anthony Litterio at 9:39 pm on Montgomery Street, after a motor vehicle stop led to the discovery of items in his possession believed by the Officers to be drug paraphernalia and a substance that was believed to be marijuana. Mr. Jefferson was processed and released ROR after being charged and a court date is pending.
6/9/2015 – Markice Thomas age 25 from Elmwood Park was arrested by Officer Joseph Cevallos at 2:16 pm, on the 200 block of Bloomfield Avenue, after a motor vehicle stop led to the discovery of an active $200 warrant out of East Orange. Mr. Thomas was processed and turned over to the custody of East Orange Police.
6/9/2015 - A 35 year old Bloomfield resident was robbed at gunpoint of his cell phone while he was walking on the 100 block of Franklin Street. The victim reported to Police that while he was walking east on Franklin Street at 1:40 am he observed a black, 4 door Jeep parked in front of 120 Franklin Street. At this point an individual described by the victim as being a black male, 5’’10”, thin build, beard and wearing a white / black shirt, approached him and pointed a silver handgun at him. The suspect said “Give me your money” but when the victim raised his hands the suspect reached in his pocket and took his cell phone. The suspect then got into the passenger side of the parked Jeep, which then fled east on Franklin Street. There was no description of the driver. A search of the area was conducted however no suspects or vehicle were located.
