In Bloomfield: Robbery Suspect Bites Store Manager, Jewelry Burglary, Car Chase and Loose Pit Bulls

Police Blotter: April 6 to 14

Editor’s Note: The following incidents are taken directly from the Bloomfield Police Blotter, which may not include the full scope of police activity in the area. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

ROBBERY

4/9/2015 - A store manager from Quick Check, 357 Broad Street reported to police that he was assaulted by two males when he attempted to stop them from shoplifting. The victim said that he was pushed into a store display, a scuffle ensued and he was bit in the hand by one of the suspects. Both suspects fled northbound on foot, on Broad Street and a search of the area by police proved to be negative.

One suspect was described by the victim as a black male in his 20s, approximately 5’11” with a tattoo on his neck, black leather jacket and a gray hoodie. The second suspect was described as a black male with short hair, a knit cap, beige pants, and a brown jacket.

BURGLARY

4/7/2015 – On the 100 block of N. 16th Street a resident reported arriving home from work and finding that his apartment door appeared to have been broken. A bedroom was ransacked and the following items were reported stolen; $100 cash, an IBM laptop computer bag, a black 50 GB Western Digital hard drive, a set of Sony headphones and a Sony camera. The total value of the items stole is estimated to be approximately $835.

4/7/2015 – A residential burglary was reported on the 100 block of N. 16th Street which occurred sometime between 11:00 am and 8:00 pm. A ladder was found setup in the rear of the house to a first floor roof, giving access to a second floor bathroom window which is believed to be the point of entry into the home. An undetermined amount of jewelry was reported stolen.

4/9/2015 – A residential burglary was reported on the 100 block of N. 15th Street which occurred sometime between 10:45 am and 1:00 pm. The victim returned home and found a back outside door open as well as the back door to her apartment. A Microsoft Surface Pro tablet and keyboard are reported to have been stolen as well as a laptop computer. A point of entry was determined to be a basement window in the back of the residence where the window frame was removed from the casing and placed in the garbage. The rear doors were then determined to be an exit point.

4/12/2015 – On the 100 block of Birch Street a resident reported a $400 piece of china, a $300 Kors tote bag and a $120 gold chain missing from her home. No signs of forced entry were found and no specific time frame could be determined for the crime.

THEFT FROM AUTO

4/6/2015 – On the 100 block of Floyd Avenue the manager of Equipment Sales and Service reported that two of his new trucks are missing four receivers from the wheel lifts. The parts are estimated to be worth $2,000. It was determined that the suspects gained entry onto the businesses property by cutting a fence that adjoins a neighboring property.

4/11/2015 – On Willet Street two vehicles were broken into between 9:45 pm on 4/10/2015 and 9:00 am on 4/11/2015. A black wallet containing several different forms of identification and some bank cards were stolen from one vehicle and it is unknown what if anything was stolen from the second vehicle.

THEFT

4/6/2015 – At 285 Glenwood Avenue, Senoritas and 607 Bloomfield Avenue, The Farm Boy Market, an older black male entered both establishments one after another and asked for change of a $20 bill. The suspect in both cases then created confusion by causing a commotion regarding the exchange of the bills and left each store with more money than he was due. The incident is under investigation and video surveillance is being reviewed.

4/6/2015 – On the lower end of North Spring Street a resident reported a snow blower missing from her unlocked garage.

4/7/2015 – A resident on the lower end of Davey Street reported that on 4/3/15 he ordered an iPhone 6 online and Fed Ex delivered the package on 4/4/15 at 10:47 am to his front steps. The victim never received the package and believes it was stolen.

4/10/2015 – On the lower end of N. Spring Street a resident reported that a clock valued at approximately $200 and a 30 piece Swarovski glass collection valued at approximately $3,000 are missing from her home. A time frame for the crime could not be determined.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

4/7/2015 – On Gillespie Road the rear hatch window of a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse was smashed. An empty glass Snapple bottle was located nearby the damaged vehicle and is believed to have been used to smash the window. Investigators are looking into the connection between this incident and a previous incident where a note was left on the victim’s car asking her not to park on the street in front of that address.

4/8/2015 – On the 200 block of N.15th Street a victim reported that the sunroof of her vehicle had been shattered. Nothing appeared to be missing from the vehicle.

4/11/2015 – On the 100 block of Bloomfield Avenue someone spray painted an excavator between the hours of 5 pm on 04/10/15 and 6 am on 04/11/15.

ARRESTS

4/7/2015 – Rosiland Grace Jr. age 27 from Paterson was arrested by Officer Michael Malia at 4:57 am after an investigation led to the discovery of active warrants out of Elmwood Park, $500 Saddle Brook, $2,500 and South Hackensack $750.

Grace was charged in Bloomfield with Hindering Apprehension for allegedly giving false information to Officer Malia to avoid detection of the warrants and arrest. Bail was set by the Honorable Judge Vincent Pirone at $1000 with a 10 percent cash option available and a court date is pending.

4/7/2015 – Larry Clemons age 53 from Newark was arrested in Hudson County and turned over to the custody of Bloomfield Officers Dominick Sodano and Reuben Rivera for $650 worth of active Bloomfield warrants. Clemons was processed for his warrants and released ROR by the Honorable Judge John Paparazzo with a new court date pending.

4/7/2015 – Jose Benitez age 46 from East Orange was arrested by Officer Thomas Lutz at 10:09 pm on the property of 122 Bloomfield Avenue and charged with trespassing. Benitez was processed and released ROR with a court date pending.

4/7/2015 – Vincent Cook age 21 from East Orange was arrested by Officers Meljunn Pascua and Matthew Rubbinaccio at 11:53 pm on Floyd Avenue for an active warrant out of East Orange, NJ. Cook was processed, posted bail and was released.

4/8/2015 – Jaquill Warren age 20 from Newark was arrested by Officer Thomas Lutz, Raymond Diaz and Nicholas Mauriello after Officer Lutz attempted to make a motor vehicle stop of the 2015 Honda that Warren was in and the driver refused to stop and sped away into Newark. The vehicle was located on N. 5th Street and found to have been stolen out of Lyndhurst on 3/30/15. Officers Mauriello and Diaz located three suspects near where the stolen vehicle was “dumped” and they were all placed under arrest. Two 17 year old juvenile suspects from Newark and East Orange were turned over to the Bloomfield Police Department Juvenile Unit for charges and Warren was processed and charged with: Receiving stolen property, Possession of CDS marijuana under 50 grams and Resisting arrest by flight. The Honorable Judge Vincent Pirone set bail at $20,000 and a court date is pending.

4/8/2015 - Anthony Hall age 53 from Elizabeth was arrested by Officers Daniel Freitag and Hector Nunez at 10:28 am after an investigation into a suspicious person on N. 17th Street led to the discovery of an active $100,000 warrant out of Carteret, NJ. Hall was processed and turned over to the custody of Carteret Police.

4/8/2015 – Malvin Delarosa age 19 was arrested by Officers Odilio Say and Kenneth Batchelor at 2:07 pm for allegedly shoplifting $69.99 worth of merchandise from the Marshall’s Department Store, 8 Franklin Street. Delarosa was released ROR with a new court date pending after being processed and charged with shoplifting.

4/8/2015 – Pasha Freeman age 35 from Newark was arrested by Officer Caesar Mazzeo at 11:13 pm after a motor vehicle stop led to the discovery of an active warrant out of Irvington, NJ. Freeman was processed and released after posting bail.

4/9/2015 – Wilfredo Valle age 35 from Belleville was arrested by Officer Argenis Vargas at 12:40 am after an investigation into a theft from auto call revealed that Mr. Valle had an active warrant out of The Essex County Sheriff’s Department. During the arrest process it was discovered that Mr. Valle was also in possession of a glassine bag that contained a substance Officer Argenis believed to be CDS, heroin and other items commonly used as CDS paraphernalia. Valle was charged with: Possession of CDS and Possession of CDS paraphernalia. The Honorable Judge Vincent Pirone set bail at $3500 with a 10 percent cash option available and a court date is pending.

4/9/2015 – Darnell Getter age 46 from East Orange was arrested by Officer Daniel Freitag and Sergeant Michael Menzel at 10:30 am after an investigation into a call of a suspicious male on N. 16th Street led to the discovery of an active $5000 warrant out of Newark, NJ. Getter was processed and released ROR by Newark Police with a new court date pending.

4/9/2015 – Gary Clark age 35 from Newark was arrested by Glen Ridge Police for an active Bloomfield warrant and turned over to the custody of Bloomfield Police Officer Robert Peters. Clark was processed for his warrant and released ROR after a court appearance in front of the Honorable Judge Vincent Pirone with a new court date pending.

4/9/2015 – Felix Delgado age 26 from Bloomfield was arrested by Detective Jeffrey Alfonso after he came to Police HQ’s with legal representation on April 8, 2015, regarding an investigation into two stolen Apple iMac computers. The Honorable Judge John Paparazzo set bail at $25,000 with a 10 percent cash option available. It was also discovered that Delgado had an active $500 warrant out of Newark and he was released after posting bail on all charges with new court dates pending.

4/10/2015 - Mark Fugate age 48 from Orange, NJ was arrested by Officers Glenn Capito and Anthony Nardiello on First Avenue at 1:10 pm after an investigation led to the discovery of an active $500 warrant out of Plainsboro, NJ. Fugate was processed and turned over to the custody of Plainsboro Police.

4/10/2015 – Handrick Willis age 23 was arrested by Officer Timothy Kealy and Sergeant Mark Moskal on the 300 block of Bloomfield Avenue at 1:53 pm after an investigation led to the discovery of an active $540 Bloomfield warrant and a $570 active warrant out of Wayne, NJ. Willis was processed and transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility to be detained pending a court hearing or posting of bail.

4/10/2015 - Joseph Canas age 21 from Newark was arrested by Officer Anthony Nardiello at 3:30 pm on First Avenue after the Officer observed from an unmarked police vehicle the suspect smoking a substance that he believed was marijuana. During the arrest process it was also discovered that Canas had an active $300 warrant out of Nutley, NJ. Canas was charged with Possession of CDS, marijuana under 50 grams. After being processed, Canas posted bail for his Nutley warrant and was released ROR for his Bloomfield charges. New court dates are pending.

4/10/2015 – Nathaniel Addison age 21 was arrested by Officer Thomas Lutz at 11:19 pm on the 200 block of Franklin Street and charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Officer Lutz attempted to issue Addison a summons for walking in the roadway when a struggle ensued and Addison was taken into custody. Addison was released with a court date pending after posting bail which was set at $5,500 or 10 percent cash option by the Honorable Judge Vincent Pirone.

4/11/2015 – Juan Vivar age 27 from Bloomfield was arrested by Officers Salvatore Cordi and Anthony Nardiello at 9:05 am on Windsor Place after an investigation led to the discovery of active warrants out of Tinton Falls, NJ, $1101, and Cedar Grove, NJ, $500. The officers responded to a call of pit bulls running at large and after locating the dog’s owner, Vivar, they were in the process of issuing summonses to him for his animals running at large and being unlicensed when they discovered the warrants. Vivar was placed under arrest, transported to Police HQ’s, processed, issued summonses and released ROR with new courts dates pending for his warrants.

4/11/2015 - Steven DeMedici age 27 from Glen Ridge was arrested by Officer Dominick Sodano at 7:23 am on Park Avenue near Edgewood Road and charged with criminal mischief after allegedly damaging Township property (a flower planter). DeMedici was released ROR with a court date pending after being issued a summons. The flower planter was estimated to be valued at $500.

4/13/2015 – Carla Bacchus age 30 from Metuchen, NJ was arrested by Officer Matthew Rubbinaccio at 6:35 pm on the 200 block of Montgomery Street after a motor vehicle stop led to the discovery of an active $324 warrant out of South Plainfield. Bacchus was processed and released with a new a new court date pending after posting bail.

4/14/2015 – Steven Louis age 37 from Newark was arrested by Officer Reuben Rivera at 1:58 am on the 100 block of Bloomfield Avenue after an investigation into a disorderly persons complaint led to the discovery of an active $600 warrant out of North Arlington, NJ. Louis was processed and transported to North Arlington where he was turned over to the custody of North Arlington Police.
