Bloomfield Rotary Welcomes Clara Maass CEO As New Member

Mary Ellen Clyne, PhD, President and CEO of Clara Maass Medical Center, has been inducted as a member of the Bloomfield Rotary Club.

From RWJ Barnabas Health: Mary Ellen Clyne, PhD, President and CEO of Clara Maass Medical Center was inducted on June 29th as a member of the Bloomfield Rotary Club. The club, which was established in 1936, is a local unit of Rotary International which brings together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian services, and to advance goodwill and peace around the world. Worldwide, there are more than 30,000 clubs with over 1 million members, who are known as “Rotarians.”

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Clyne as one of our newest members” said Betty Shivdayal, President of the Bloomfield Rotary Club. “She is a visionary who brings enthusiasm, leadership, and a genuine commitment to serve our community.” Shivdayal is also Vice President and Territory Sales Manager at Valley National Bank.

As President and Chief Executive Officer of Clara Maass Medical Center, a Barnabas Health facility, Clyne oversees all initiatives supporting the delivery of patient care, financial stability, strategic planning, quality, patient safety and community relations for the Medical Center. She brings 30 years of diverse health care experience as a Registered Nurse, teacher, author, and administrator who has a strong record of clinical growth and an expansive knowledge of the Affordable Care Act and Accountable Care Organizations.

Dr. Clyne is the only woman heading an Acute Care, Community Based, hospital in Essex County. Clara Maass Medical Center is a leading health care facility located in Belleville, New Jersey that provides quality care to residents of Essex, Hudson and Passaic Counties.

Under Dr. Clyne’s leadership, Clara Maass Medical Center has earned numerous accolades – including eight consecutive Grade “A” Hospital Safety scores from The Leapfrog Group, making it just one out of 133 hospitals in the nation to earn this distinction; rank by U.S. News & World Report as a Top 50 Hospital in the New York Metro Area for three consecutive rating periods. In 2014, Clara Maass received the Mission: Lifeline® Bronze Receiving Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of patients who suffer severe heart attacks, and The Joint Commission awarded Clara Maass as a Top Performing Hospital with its third consecutive year. Additionally, the Joint Commission has granted Clara Maass Medical Center with their Gold Seal of Approval® for care of patients with AMI, CHF, Cardiac Rehab, Hip and Knee Replacement.

Dr. Clyne is the first person to earn her Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees in nursing at Seton Hall University, where she also serves as a clinical and adjunct professor. She has conducted and participated in many nursing research studies.
