Bloomfield Scam Phone Call Appears To Be From Cops, But Isn’t

Some Bloomfield residents got a call that local police have issued an arrest warrant in their name. It's bogus, police said.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield police are asking local residents to be on the lookout for a phone scam being run in the township. The kicker, though, is that the call appears to be coming from the Bloomfield Police Department.

It isn't, police said.

The BPD wrote Monday:

“We have received reports that residents are getting calls on their caller ID from the Bloomfield Police Dept. Phone Number (973-680-4100) stating there is a warrant in their name and they must pay over the phone by calling a specific phone number given or they’ll be arrested. THIS IS A SCAM. The police will NEVER call you to advise you that there is a warrant and advise you to pay over the phone. Anyone with similar incidents should call our dispatch at 973-680-4141.. please share!”
