Bloomfield School Official Says ‘No Cuts’ In Proposed Budget
Bloomfield's school superintendent recommended a 2 percent tax levy increase to the board of education.
BLOOMFIELD, NJ — The Bloomfield Board of Education turned their eyes to this year’s school budget during a public meeting this week.
On Tuesday, the school board heard a presentation from Superintendent Salvatore Goncalves about the 2023-2024 budget. The board will continue to discuss the proposed budget over its next meetings, with a formal vote expected in late March. No action was taken at the Feb. 21 meeting.
According to Goncalves, the preliminary budget has “no cuts.”

“We are keeping all of our personnel in place,” Goncalves said, adding that the district is going to be “very particular about who we hire” in the future.
The superintendent also recommended a 2 percent tax levy increase to the board.

The next meeting of the board of education is scheduled for Tuesday, March 7. Meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room of the administration building, 155 Broad Street. Public sessions begin at 7:30 p.m.
