Bloomfield Stolen Car Used In Home Invasion; Other Car Crimes Reported

A car stolen in Bloomfield was used in a home invasion in Lyndhurst, authorities said. See some other recently reported vehicle crimes.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Several vehicle-related crimes were reported in Bloomfield last week, including a stolen car and an attempted theft, authorities said.

The Blomfield Police Department released the following details about each incident:

Jan. 23 – Officers responded to the 200-block of Baldwin Street on report of a catalytic converter theft. A resident parked his vehicle in front of his residence overnight and when he returned the following morning, he noticed the catalytic converter was missing. This incident is under investigation.

Jan. 24 – Officers responded to 1350 Broad Street (Brookdale Baptist Church) on report of a theft from auto. The complainant was performing plumbing work inside of the church and when he returned to his work van, he noticed the passenger side door lock was damaged. Two Hilti power drills and a Hilti Pro Press gun were missing from the van. The tools were valued at $7,000. This incident is under investigation.

Jan. 27 – Officers responded to the area of Watsessing Avenue on report of an attempted motor vehicle theft. A resident provided surveillance video of two males wearing dark clothing and ski masks in his driveway. The suspects broke the rear passenger window and entered his vehicle. The males also tampered with the vehicle’s steering column but were unsuccessful in starting the vehicle. This incident is under investigation.

Jan. 28 – Officers responded to the area of Parkway West on report of a motor vehicle theft. Bloomfield police officers were advised by the Lyndhurst Police Department that they located a vehicle that was involved in a home invasion in their jurisdiction. The owner of the vehicle was unaware her vehicle was stolen from her driveway in Bloomfield. This incident is under investigation.
