Boil Water Alert Lifted In Bloomfield: What Residents Should Know (UPDATED)

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A precautionary boil water alert was issued in Bloomfield on Wednesday due to a water main break. It was lifted on Friday.
According to a municipal advisory, the water main break took place at Orange Street and Orange Place and caused a loss of pressure in parts of the system. It has since been repaired.

“This is a precautionary measure – no contamination has been confirmed,” the alert stated.
“The advisory is required by state regulations whenever pressure drops, as a precaution to ensure water quality,” town officials continued. “At this time, there is no confirmed contamination, but testing must be completed before the advisory can be lifted.”

Until further notice, residents should boil tap water for one minute before drinking, cooking, brushing teeth or washing dishes – or use bottled water, the alert said.
Residents in need of assistance can contact the Human Services Department at 973-680-4019. The township will also be providing bottled water to senior residential complexes.
“The township is actively making repairs and testing the water,” Bloomfield officials said Wednesday afternoon.
The advisory will be lifted as soon as results confirm the water is safe, officials said.
On Thursday, town officials confirmed the advisory remains in effect. Water samples are being collected and sent for testing, with results expected within 24 hours.
On Friday, the township announced that the alert has been lifted:
“Repairs are complete and water testing confirms the supply is safe. Boiling water is no longer required. Residents may resume normal use. As a precaution, residents are encouraged to run faucets for 3 to 5 minutes, clean ice makers, and follow any additional guidance outlined in the official notice.”
