SPIRITUALITY:
HEALING & WHOLENESS
Often our lives are like the fisherman who stood for days on
top of a whale fishing for minnows
Not only did he have what he needed but more he had more than he could ever
hope for. How did he miss it?
We already have everything we need. Some call it grace, Love, God as you
understand God, Higher Power, Universal Energy, and Spirit, whatever.

How do some of us miss it?
Maybe it's too simple? It is like holding all your ten
fingers very closely in front of your face. Try it. Can you see all of them? No
way! Why? Right, because they are too close.

Doctors and those in the health field agree that as well as
eating healthy & exercising we also need to nurture a healthy spiritual
life. We need to take time In the midst of delighting in the pleasures of life
or treading the challenging difficulties to be still, be quiet, and listen to
the promptings of our inner wisdom.
Most of the Western world focuses human efforts on that which can be seen, tasted, grasped, smelled
and touched in all its concreteness and can be acquired deeming the person
worthwhile, valuable, and wise.
However, Key words toprayer and meditation are stillness, awareness, notice, listen, and savor.
Very often it is the most difficult place to get to because meditation and
prayer can feel like "wasting time." A clergy visitor from the
Eastern Tradition in India new to this country said to me, "I never heard
the phrases, "I am so tired or I am so busy so many times in my life."
I realize most of us are not beginners but I find it very
easy with the distractions of a noisy world filled with as my husband, a
salesman mind you of sound and recording
systems likes to chant in protest, “beeping,
clicking, chirping, faxing, ringing” it’s easy to take three steps forward and two steps back as the saying goes.
What we need to do is persevere in learning how to be aware of
this voice which manifests as an interior knowing, through people events,
nature, dreams, in our hearts and then find ways to tap into this life giving treasure.
But if we've always had this treasure what happened to it? Life happens. Many were never told never
encouraged so they continued to fish for
minnows when the answer was so close. Some people have had rough, painful
lives and the flame of enthusiasm and joy got snuffed out. Losses of loved
ones, physical and emotional pain so many reasons to not be aware of our
goodness, to lose hope in ourselves, people, the world even the God of your
understanding.
One can feel as though they are doing all the right things
but, “still haven’t found what they’re looking for.”
Although the journey to peace, wholeness and healing is
easy enough to find it takes choices and work.
There certainly are times we cannot choose what happens
to us but we always have a choice of
how we will react or respond to that event.
When I find myself overwhelmed or rattled I stop and ask
myself 3 questions:
Where are you?
Where do you want to be?
And what are you willing to do to get there?
Of course my lazy instant answer self is talking at the same
time saying, Please, someone do this for me…now” neither realistic nor lasting,
I know.
Instead, in my own quest for wholeness, healing and a deep meaningful
spiritual life I have found and been led to many gifted wise men and women on
their own inner and outer journeys, who have shared their hard-won insights and
taught me how to appreciate, understand and persevere in finding and living in
the gentle power of the spirit within me, a power that we all possess.
