Bloomfield authorities issued a precautionary boil water advisory on Thursday after a car crash damaged a water main.

Bloomfield, NJ – Bloomfield authorities issued a precautionary boil water advisory on Thursday after a car crash damaged a water main.
A social media post from the Township of Bloomfield Public Works and Parks stated that the accident took place near the Shop Rite.
According to a message posted to the municipal website, the presence of e-coli or fecal coliform wasn’t immediately detected in the water system.

“Water main breaks of this nature require the township to sample and re-sample the water to verify that these contaminants have not been introduced into the water system,” the municipal advisory stated.
According to township officials, until further notice, all water used for consumption, brushing teeth and washing dishes should be boiled for at least a minute prior to use.

Bottled water use is encouraged, officials said.
