Burglaries Reported At Bloomfield College, BMW Dealership

Bloomfield Police: A man tried to steal electronic equipment from the college. A group of men tried to steal keys from a car dealership.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A pair of burglaries were recently reported at Bloomfield College and a local BMW dealership, police say.

The Bloomfield Police Department released the following details about each incident; both are under investigation, authorities said Wednesday.

Feb. 16 - Officers responded to 63 Fremont Street (Bloomfield College) on report of a burglary. Campus security observed a suspicious person on video surveillance walking through multiple rooms inside the building. The suspect was described as a male in his mid-50’s. The suspect broke the lock to a storage closet and attempted to steal numerous electronics.

Feb. 17 – Officers responded to 280 Newark Avenue (BMW Dealership) on report of a burglary. An employee, who monitors the surveillance cameras, observed a black BMW enter the lot and four men exit and climb over a fence into a secured area. One of the men was able to gain access to a shed where the valet keys are kept. After becoming aware of the employee’s presence, the men fled the area in the vehicle they arrived in. One of the men dropped 36 key fobs belonging to customers’ vehicles. The key fobs were recovered. It was later determined that the suspects’ vehicle was reported stolen from Montville.
