Open House Meet & Greet
Joan Hussey for Mayor brings you:
THE BLOOMFIELD WORLD’s FAIR
2 to 6 pm Saturday October 4, 2025
Watsessing Park Community Center, 38 Conger Street, Bloomfield NJ 07003
Bring the family. Stop by for a visit and meet the candidate, Joan Hussey, and tour four table-top exhibits of very possible Bloomfield initiatives that Mayor Joan would bring to the table of our town council and administration. These FIRST FOUR initiatives begin to make our town more affordable, easier, and fun to walk, and bike, and drive.
Affordable Housing Initiative- Revised code requirements such as allowing studio apartments to be built in new construction. For landlords of old, amortized apartments, make it affordable to maintain their structure and preserve the legacy of these buildings and protect the tenants who live in an affordable unit. There are many other initiatives that this town administration may consider to bring more units of affordable housing to fruition.
The Bloomfield Gateway- The GSPW overpass, service roads and intersections involving Exit 148 and on Bloomfield Avenue to Franklin Street form the 1st impression of our town and can be made appealing, welcoming, and much safer for walking, biking, and driving.
Urban Street Tree Commission- We have had this before and we can bring it back, for our environment, and for our homeowners caught in that bind of tree roots bulging the sidewalks.
Revise Land Development and Zoning Ordinance and Create an Arts and Culture Overlay District in Bloomfield Center including a multi-purpose theater, parking deck on Conger Street lot, affordable apartments over theater for artists, young professionals, township employees. Let’s revamp the current vamp, called the former now derelict Center Theater and the surrounding area.
Light snacks and drinks and weather permitting, after the meet & greet & “The Bloomfield World’s Fair,” head out and enjoy Watsessing Park* and the playground.
The Playground is one of the most inclusive and accessible playgrounds around. FUN for EVERYONE and ADA-compliant, all accessible, a ramp leads to the play structure and allows kids in wheelchairs to play with ease on the play panels, drums, and puzzles.
The historic Watsessing Park was designed by Olmstead Brothers. The historically significant Second River passes through Watsessing Park and meanders, almost undetectable, beneath the Garden State Parkway overpass. These natural features create a stark and interesting contrast to the Garden State Parkway infrastructure and urban environment of downtown Bloomfield.
