Car Stolen At Bloomfield Gas Station While Owner Was Inside Store: PD

The victim told police that he left his vehicle running near the gas pumps while he went inside the store, taking the key fob with him.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A car thief stole a vehicle at a gas station in Bloomfield last weekend while the owner was inside the convenience store, authorities said Thursday.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, officers responded to the Valero gas station on Bloomfield Avenue on Sunday after getting a report about a stolen car.

The victim told officers that he left his 2013 Mercedes Benz GL6 running near the gas pumps while he went inside the store, taking the key fob with him. When he returned to his vehicle, he noticed it was gone.

Police reviewed surveillance video, which showed a man wearing blue jeans and a black, puffy North Face jacket enter the vehicle and flee the scene.

Bloomfield police entered the vehicle as stolen in the National Crime Information Center. An investigation continues, authorities said.
