Car Thefts, Attempted Thefts Reported In Bloomfield

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Two vehicle thefts and a pair of attempted thefts were reported in Bloomfield last week, including incidents at a local BMW dealership and a gas station, authorities announced Friday.

The Bloomfield Police Department released the following details about each incident:

June 17 – Officers responded to Orange Street after getting a report about a motor vehicle theft. A resident parked his vehicle in front of a residence overnight, and when he returned to the area the following morning, he noticed it was missing. The vehicle, a black 2019 Jeep Compass, was entered as stolen. This incident is under investigation, police said.

June 23 – Officers responded to 425 Bloomfield Avenue (BMW) after getting a report about attempted motor vehicle thefts. A vehicle which was reported stolen and occupied by two men was in the BMW lot. The men were observed attempting to gain entry into two BMWs on the lot. The men were unsuccessful and fled the scene in the stolen vehicle. This incident is under investigation, police said.

June 23 – Officers responded to 72 Bloomfield Avenue (Sunoco) after getting a report about a motor vehicle theft. A driver entered the convenience store and left his vehicle running and unoccupied. When the driver exited, he saw a male inside the driver’s seat of his vehicle – and reversing out of the lot. The suspect fled the scene and crashed into a parked vehicle nearby. This incident is under investigation, police said.
