Concerns From Essex County Jewish Community Spur Town Hall: ECPO

A virtual town hall will be held in Essex County in response to concerns raised by members of the Jewish faith community, prosecutors said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A virtual town hall will be held in Essex County in response to concerns raised by members of the Jewish faith community, prosecutors announced Wednesday.

The meeting will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9 via Zoom. Meeting login info follows:

During the meeting, members of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, and the Anti-Defamation League will discuss safety measures that can be used to protect houses of worship.

The town hall will also discuss prosecuting bias crimes, and grants available to provide increased security. There will be a period for questions and answers, organizers said.

“Considering the attack on a synagogue in Colleyville, Texas just two weeks ago and the overall rise in anti-Semitic crimes, we believe this is an important time to address the community,” Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens said.
