‘Covered With Compassion’: NJ Assemblywoman Hosts Annual Event

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Assemblywoman Britnee Timberlake recently hosted her fifth annual “Covered with Compassion” community event, collaborating with vendors and community partners to provide free wigs and support services to women experiencing health-related hair loss.

According to a news release from Timberlake, several women battling various forms of cancer, alopecia and other diseases that lead to hair loss were treated to a self-esteem-boosting beauty session.

“This event is dear to my heart as I used wigs, makeup, and other forms of beautification to make my grandmother happy throughout her battle with cancer,” the assemblywoman said.

“I know how much it meant to her, and I want other women to feel beautiful as they deal with their health related-hair loss conditions,” Timberlake added.

Timberlake said that several vendors and sponsors played a role in the success of the event, including Angelina Killane-Sims of AAngels, Democratic State Chairman Leroy Jones, Mayor Dwayne Warren from the City of Orange, Councilwoman Adrienne Wooten from the City of Orange, Union Baptist Church of Montclair, June Jarvis and Shaffine Mohammed from Mary Kay, Donavalisha Mickens from Delightful Hands by Dalisha, Rita Williams and Deborah Rose from Black Beauty Hair Salon, Kierra Kaiser and Tony Flood of CareWell Health, Pat Jones from Lavender Wisps, Grace Olyfveld, Nadine Wright-Arbubakrr from Nassan's Place, and Khenan Telford from Telford & Associates.

The recently redrawn 34th district includes the municipalities of Belleville, Bloomfield, East Orange, Glen Ridge, Nutley and Orange.
