On a cool Saturday afternoon, alumni, current students, faculty and staff come together in Bloomfield apparel and celebrate on the quad of Bloomfield College. A deejay is playing music, student organizations are out and about, and there are great food and plenty of people milling around, from current students to alumni to high school students interested in attending the college.
Welcome to Deacon’s Fest, the annual Bloomfield College version of homecoming, which is hosted by the college’s admissions department. This year’s event will be held on Oct. 20.

Bloomfield College Student Ambassador Rohanna Powell said Deacon’s Fest fills a lot of roles for the college community.
“Families of the current students come and enjoy different activities, giveaways, (to get) information and get food,” Powell said. “It’s also alumni weekend. They get to come experience it again and see how the school may have changed and meet current students and (they) give information to prospective students.

“And prospective students get to talk to different counselors and go to information sessions to see if their interested in going to the school and answering questions they may have.”
In addition to the open house activities (students can apply to Bloomfield College on site if they like what they see), student organizations also will have information tables on the college’s yard. Other tables will offer free items and games.
“It’s the fifth annual for a reason it’s because it’s our most successful event on campus. It accomplishes a lot of things in one day. People from what we know really enjoy the day and coming out and spending a beautiful fall day out on the quad,” said Jessica Zawerczuk, coordinator of Deacon’s Fest. “It’s just a really great opportunity for all the areas of campus, past, present and future to come together to celebrate Bloomfield College.”
