Details Released On Woman's Death In Garden State Parkway Crash

One woman was killed in a New Jersey highway accident on Sunday morning.

A 25-year-old New Jersey woman died in a car wreck early Sunday on the Garden State Parkway, police said.

Alexis Simpkins, 25, of Bloomfield died after she lost control of her 2010 Toyota Corolla on the roadway around 5:13 a.m., police said.

Simpkins drove rove off the right side of the northbound side of the highway, ran down an embankment and struck a tree, police said.

Simpkins suffered serious bodily injury and pronounced dead at the scene around 6 a.m. She was not wearing a seat belt and the road was wet from the rain, police said.

The accident happened south of Exit 137. Part of the parkway and possibly Route 28 was closed for the investigation.
