DWI Arrest: Bloomfield Man Found Parked On Darling Avenue Sidewalk, Police Say

The car had apparently knocked down a street sign and was parked near the front lawn of a nearby residence, Bloomfield police say.

Bloomfield, NJ – Bloomfield police arrested a local man for driving while intoxicated after allegedly discovering him sleeping in his car and parked on the sidewalk last week.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, an officer responded to the area of Darling Avenue around 3 a.m. on March 7 to find a vehicle parked on the sidewalk with the driver sleeping inside.

The officer observed that the car had apparently knocked down a street sign and was partially on the front lawn of a nearby residence, police stated.

The driver, Robert Szivek, 47, of Bloomfield, was arrested after allegedly failing multiple field sobriety tests, police stated.

In addition to DWI, authorities charged Szivek with careless driving and failure to exhibit an insurance certificate.

He was released to the custody of a family member, police said.
