2 at 19 features Introduction and Rondo, Capriccioso Op. 28 by Camille Saint-Saëns and Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 4 (“Tragic”) in C Minor, D. 417. The title of the concert stems from the context surrounding each piece’s composition.
Saint- Saëns wrote Introduction and Rondo, Capriccioso Op. 28 in 1863 for 19 year old violin virtuoso Pablo De Sarasate, It has elements of Spanish dance style music and makes for a dramatic performance. First performed in 1867, the piece continues to remain one of Saint- Saëns’ most popular pieces. Ieva Binderyte will be performing the solo with The Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra.

Schubert wrote Symphony No. 4 when he was just 19 years old and was first premiered in 1849, almost twenty years after Schubert’s death. The piece is written in four movements and is the only Schubert symphony written in a minor key, other than his Unfinished Symphony.
